I’m not an artist! Why should I join the Mispillion Art League?
Here’s a short answer. It may not be comprehensive, but certainly it’s food for thought: how do you know, and more importantly, why not?
As of July, 310 people are dues-paying members of the Mispillion Art League, and not all of them are artists, as in a person who earns a living producing visual art.
So, that being said, here are three great reasons to get onboard:
- Value: Dues, at $40 per person each year (July 1 – June 30), entitles the member to discounted class or workshop fees. Families can join for $65 a year. Most discounts, depending on the class, are around 20 percent. The class are reasonably priced to encourage participation, so signing up is not only a bargain, but also an educational opportunity. Many parents have discovered that art classes develop much more than drawing and painting skills. Art taps into the brain at many levels.
- Social interaction: Signing up and attending a class is an opportunity to meet new people, make new friends, open new and different levels of engagement. Some people are understandably hesitant about trying something new, but many of the classes at the Mispillion Art League are geared toward beginners. That’s OK! Our instructors welcome and encourage new students. You might be surprised at what you enjoy doing.
- Why not?: Really, why not? There’s nothing to lose and plenty to gain! The Mispillion Art League also hosts exhibit openings, participates in community events, offers free workshops and lectures, and provides an opportunity to get involved and volunteer.
After all, the gallery is located in the heart of downtown Milford, and Milford’s brand is “River Town, Art Town, Home Town.”
