After a career as a Probation/Parole officer, C. Mercedes Walls (aka: Cathy), opened her studio in Milford, Delaware. Realism and intense color are hallmarks of her style. Architecture, reflections and machinery are realistic but hers, injected with lively colors.
Mostly, she loves people. Not portraiture, but scenes of people doing people things. Working in oils, watercolors and pastels, the medium and colors chosen relate to the scene. A jazz singer letting it wail: Cool blues, green-gray oils, pops of red. The challenge is not making those people and objects look photographic, it’s using texture, color and composition to recreate the feeling when she first witnessed their story. A founding member of Mispillion Art League and signature member of the Delaware Watercolor Society, she exhibits widely and has won many ribbons and awards. Teaching art to adults and children and working with clients on commissioned pieces are two great joys.
