Bob Connelly

I took my first photographs from the open door of a helicopter in Vietnam in the 1960s and I've been hooked on photography ever since.

I endeavor to record a moment that communicates the purpose of an event, or a detail that explains a place in a manner that is understandable. My intent is to hold the viewer's attention long enough to create a question in their mind and answer that question in my own way.

I grew up in New York City, then moved to Arizona and worked as a firefighter for 25 years, attaining the rank of Captain while working towards my degree in fine arts from Arizona State University. During that time I was a freelance photographer doing commercial assignments and worked as an assistant to several well-respected Phoenix photographers, honing my craft.

After retirement I taught photography at Westwood High School in nearby Mesa, Arizona for five years. In the summer of 2003 I was awarded a Fullbright-Hays Scholarship Grant for teachers and traveled to the Czech and Slovac Republics, focusing on photography & the arts.

In 2005, my wife Rosemary, a watercolorist, and I sold our home in Phoenix and moved to Italy to fulfill our dream - to "live cheap and make art" - where I amassed a photo library of well over 30,000 digital images during our two-year adventure. We live simply in Milford, DE where I continue to seek out new subjects for my camera. My photographs are digitally printed on an Epson 2200 using archival inks and fine art, acid free papers and are in collections in both the U.S. and Europe.

I am a member of the Dover, Mispillion and Rehoboth Art Leagues. My photograph "Little Saint, Good Friday, Enna" was included in an exhibition at the Delaware Art Museum honoring Gordon Parks and my work "Abbott's Mill in Snow" was one of only 73 works selected to be included in "Biggs Picture: Landscape Competition and Exhibition" at the Biggs Museum of American Art, Dover, DE.
