Classes and Workshops
The Mispillion Art League provides a variety of classes for adults and children
Beginners are encouraged to explore their interest in art in this supportive, nurturing environment.
Experienced artists are encouraged to enhance their skills and share their ideas with fellow artists. The classes are taught by working artists, many of whom have won recognition for their work.
Please register well ahead of deadline to assure a space.
No space is reserved without full payment of fees. All fees must be paid at the time of registration. Class and workshop registration is open to members and non-members.

Preschool (Ages 3-5) Mondays 10:00-11:30am $15/class drop-in or
$65 pre-regis 5 weeks
We will play in textures, experiment in different mediums, and have fun with art! Parents must remain for the class. (Siblings are welcome, but not participate unless registered and paid for) Limit: 6 children
Special Needs (Ages 4-8) Mondays 12:30-2:00* $15/class drop-in or
$65 pre-regis 5 weeks
We will express ourselves through different mediums, creating art and having fun! Parents must stay with their child during class. (Siblings are welcome, but are not invited to participate unless registered and paid for).
Limit: 6 children (* if enough interest, a second class may run 2:30-4:00pm)

Join us for classes in fine arts. Learn about famous artists and try out their style of art. A different artist and medium each week. Limit 15 per class sess.

SIGHT AND SOUND CAMP Mon-Thurs, Aug 5-8, 9:00am-12:00pm
Tune up all your senses! Experience the joy of music and art throught this exciting multi-disciplinary camp. Neighbors on Walnut Street, the Music School and Mispillion Art League are excited to collaborate on this camp offering daily group lessons in both violin and piano and drawing and painting. Join us for four days of Signt & Sound! $160 per camper
3D ART CAMP Mon-Thurs Aug. 12-15 9am-12 Noon Ages 8-13
Try your hand at 3 dimensional art! Each day, campers will create items that do much more than lie flat! Several artistic media such as polymer clay, mosaic tiles, paper, and charms will be used to make finished items.
Come on out and let your imagination take off in three directions!

Oil Painting in an Impressionistic Style with Margaret Bayalis
July 18, 19, 20 Thursday, Friday, Saturday 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Margaret will share her style of working with a limited palette, loose brushwork and creating, luminosity in her finished work. Students will work from photos in the studio and paint landscapes "en plein air". Group and individual instruction will be provided.
A supply list will be provided upon registration. Register by July 13.

Realist Watercolor Painting Techniques* with John Bayalis
July 18, 19, 20 Thursday, Friday, Saturday 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Watercolor is often thought of as a loose, uncontrollable medium. John however, has used the medium to produce hyper-real paintings that have won awards and been collected throughout the U.S.
Students will experience a full range of instruction focusing on production of vivid, detailed, sharp-focus watercolors. The studio workshop instruction will include color theory, using photo sources, compositional concerns and brushwork and splattering techniques. Students will produce sample works using these techniques.
*Class is open to all student levels, but some watercolor experience would be helpful.

Come Practice Washes, Part I, with Anne Carroll
August 3, Saturday 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Love to add a wash, but sometimes it doesn't work out well? We will conquer the wash! We will practice all washes. Together we will discuss washes and work through them. This class is for any type of water media. Bring your paints, flat wash brushes and paper.

Come Practice Washes, Part II, with Anne Carroll
August 24, Saturday, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Help develop your confidence in different water media techniques. Come to class with a developed piece of art, or an idea (we can develop in class) to work involving a wash. We'll work on it in class. (Instructor will have starters ready for the students unsure of drawing something out.)

Basic Object Rendering with Selman Wright
September 10, 12, 17, 19, 24, 26 Tuesdays & Thursdays, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Learn the basic technique of drawing objects as realistically as possible. This class series will concentrate on learning line, light and shadow. Improve your skill for basic construction of objects in a painting or drawing. Bring a 9" x 12" sketch book and 2B & 4B pencil to class.

Butterflies in Watercolor with Kelly Sverduk
September 21 - Saturday, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Painting life - life insects can be challenging, so this class will follow a step-by-step process at which even the beginner artist or watercolorist can succeed. Our finished paintings will feature a combination of ink and watercolor in a realistic, "field guide-style" butterfly illustration. Materials included, bring a packed lunch.

Drawing and Painting with Bill Patterson
September 18, 25 October 2, 16, 23, 30
Wednesday; 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Join Bill for six weeks of basic drawing and painting. Students will work on several drawings incorporating perspective, composition, and value (light & dark). Techniques learned will then be applied to creating a value painting with acrylics. From the black and white value a small full-colored painting will be completed.

The Brown Technique with Anne Carroll
October 5, Saturday 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Learn this fun and easy way to help yourself through a painting. Also know as the single layer process, the Brown Technique will help you make all the decision on on your drawing before you start to paint. Come prepared to start painting - with your supplies as well as your idea sketched out on the board, canvas or paper. (There will be extra drawn out pieces available if you don't have an idea.)

Weaving with Gladys Shaw
October 6, 13, 20, 27
November 3, 10, 17, 24 Sunday 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Learn to Weave! Join this 8 week course of weaving lessons for beginners or weavers wanting a refresher course. Students will learn to prepare a warp, warp the loom, thread the heddles and reed and tie onto be ready to weave. Instructions will be given for plain weave, various twills, and other variations. A second warp will be prepared for pattern weaving.
Materials will be provided by the instructor. Additional cost TBD to cover supplies.

Watercolors with Jean Masetti

Relax and enjoy this novice/intermediate class. Learn more about watercolors and how to balance pigment, water, and paper to let the transparency of color and light create a mood or feeling in your paintings. Build your confidence with group and individual instruction.

Autumn Leaves in Watercolors with Kelly Sverduk

Autumn leaves in watercolor
Capture the intense but fleeting color of the falling leaves in a painting that you will enjoy throughout the seasons. This class will teach basic watercolor techniques, while giving students the opportunity to slow down and observe the beauty of nature. No drawing or painting experience necessary - the perfect class for beginners.

Painting in Pastels with Cathy Walls
November 6, 7, and 8 Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Using the pure colors of chalk pastes, this class is designed to increase visual art skills. We will use a variety of activities that stimulate the creative process and build confidence in the artist's ability to see form and detail. Inspiration will be taken from still life, scenes from outdoors and photos. Most of all, we'll have fun expressing ourselves! Materials included.

Pomegranate Portrait in Watercolor with Kelly Sverduk
November 23 Saturday 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Looking for festive wall d←cor for the holiday season? Create your own! In this class we will take our inspiration from a glowing pomegranate fruit and work step-by-step to portray it in watercolor. You'll be proud to show holiday guests your finished artwork, even if you are currently inexperienced at watercolor.
